Plot
A series adaptation of James Patterson’s novels about the complex and brilliant detective Alex Cross
In episode 2, Cross tells Sampson that he smells “of mothballs and Old Spice.” In real life, Isaiah Mustafa was billed in the big Old Spice commercials as “the man who could smell your husband.” Aldis Hodge is electrifying as the titular cop “Alex Cross,” based on James Patterson’s bestselling book series.
But the series has its ups and downs, and with a lengthy 8-episode runtime, it doesn’t justify its length
Ryan Eggold, Samantha Walkes, and Isaiah Mustafa shine in their supporting roles, but it’s Eloise Mumford and Karen Robinsen who stand out and even manage to steal the show from Aldis Hodge’s exceptional lead role.
A series to watch, but don’t expect the level of “Reacher” or “Sugar”
If only creator Ben Watkins had kept the script tighter and focused on the investigative elements rather than the main character’s personal problems, this could have been a groundbreaking series.
