Plot
CIA Agent Joe tries to balance his personal and professional life as the spearhead of the agency’s war on terror. Real military advisors helped produce more authentic execution of weapons handling, house clearing, positioning, teamwork, etc… Best new show out there, after a disappointing season 4 of Jack Ryan and mediocre performances everywhere else, this one seemed so much better in every way.
Great acting from everyone
It looks really well made and the action/fight scenes look great. I think most of the criticisms of this show in the comments section seem to boil down to how unrealistic it is because of the whole female operator thing, and I for one, a guy, don’t mind a good female-led action show that’s an original IP that doesn’t turn a male lead into a female lead. Also, so far I haven’t seen any red flags like making every man look incompetent or anything like that.
PS: Nicole Kidman’s part so far is incredibly small and bland and could have been done by anyone else
Also, I originally thought it was going to be more of an action-focused, no-frills show, but then they went a bit deeper into the family and that usually makes me cringe, but I didn’t mind what they did. My only criticism is that the plot of what this specific group of operatives do really limits the story and could kill it beyond a season long villain/plot… it needs to be more encompassing so they can eventually make a new Homeland that’s more intense and fast-paced, otherwise it risks becoming too episodic like a Blacklist.
We’ll see what the great Morgan Freeman brings to the series
But from what I’ve seen so far the show could stand on its own with Zaldana and no other A-list characters. TLDR Overall cautiously optimistic, but I like what I’m seeing so far, everything is incredibly polished and well done. It’s entertaining without being the History Channel show that some commentators seem to prefer.
