During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, an American sports team must adjust to a live broadcast of Israeli athletes being held hostage by a terrorist group. Juliette Ménager worked in the casting department for both this film and Múnchen (2005). This is a great movie. We saw it at the Secret Movie night at Cinemark and it was one of the best we’ve seen. The film opens with actual footage of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. I’m old enough to remember the Black September terrorist attack, but not the details. Soon the film focuses on the developments with the hostage and terrorist situation and how the ABC Sports team followed it. Once the story turns to those events, it’s non-stop action and suspense. Seeing the control room and related technical aspects of the production of a live television show was very interesting, especially when all the action starts. Observing changes in attitude and questions of politics and morality made for thoughtful viewing. Although the cinema hall had comfortable seats, I sat on the edge of my seat for most of the movie. While some secret movies aren’t worth $5, this movie was worth the full price of the ticket.
