Heretic is as unpredictable as it is chaotic
(PRS) Courtesy of Columbia Records Under arrangement with Sony Music Entertainment (Canada). While the film keeps you on edge for most of its run, the plot begins to unravel in the final act. Hugh Grant gives a superb performance, while Sophie Thatcher and Cloe East also shine in their roles. The director, cinematographer, and set designer also deserve praise, as they gradually immerse you in the escalating madness of Grant’s character and his haunted home.
The film’s weakest point, unfortunately, is the plot
The tension and mystery build beautifully at first, but around two-thirds of the way through, it begins to unravel. The climax caught me off guard, as I was expecting something deeper. Still, ‘Heretic’ is an excellent horror film in its own right – enjoyable, but not as memorable as I had hoped.
