Men and women live in a giant underground bunker with few rules that they believe are there to protect them from the toxic and broken world above. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or improving the world, these women are the stuff of science fiction. The first season covers the first 30 chapters of the book “Wool” — there are 82 chapters in the book. The floor fans in several episodes spin in the wrong direction for the orientation of the blades. Spinning in this direction neither pushes nor pulls air. Featured on WatchMojo: 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 You Need to Binge (2023). This is an interesting look at the history of an underground bunker, the people who survived underground for so long that a civilization arose within, with legends, myths, beliefs, rituals, and ceremonies rooted in events that were forgotten and the social structure of the status quo was established. And when this order-preserving status quo is challenged, coercion and punishment follow. A power structure is formed, creating a stratified population, both figuratively and literally, from the top of the bunker to the bottom. It’s a premise, and while it’s not entirely original (think Through the Snow, Dark City, etc.), there’s enough newness here that it feels well-executed for a TV series. Oyelowo does a good job, with familiar faces like Rashida Jones and Will Patton. (But as you can tell from the show poster, these are guest stars replacing the regular cast, played by Rebecca Ferguson.) The show looks decent enough, with good production values. There are elaborate sets and good CGI to create a believable atmosphere. While a suspicious mind will spot some obvious conspiracies early on, there are secrets that are revealed that will keep me on my toes.
